Mason pics

I like to deliver when I promise something. Our dsl modem failed right after my last post and we were without internet. I live in a rural area so we had to wait for a new modem to arrive in the mail. I didn't know how addicted I was. DH thought it was funny. He would. So back to delivering what I promise. Isn't Mason adorable?

I had a booth at a local quilt show Friday and Saturday. I sold a LOT of stuff. Thanks to all the ladies for making my time so profitable; not only monetarily but I am richer for meeting and visiting with other quilters. It is so much fun. Now we gotta unload the vehicles. Heehee! But there's less to unload. YAAAY!

Oriole

I managed to get a pic.

We've had a little rain and a little wind from Ike. We have Mason this weekend while DS & DDIL are having a weekend out of town. I will post more pictures in a few days. I will get a pic of his curls--he's getting his first hair cut this week.

Sept. 11

Our nation will never be the same because of Sept. 11. No one really thought anything like that could happen to our country and afterward many people were wary to go anywhere. I remember wanting to know exactly where my kids were and that they were okay. Both our youngest were in college. Our youngest son was at Texas Tech, miles away from us, and I wanted him home THAT DAY. It wasn't possible. May God bless and comfort the family and friends who lost loved ones that day.
May our nation as a whole turn back to God and Christianity. Thank God for blessing our nation. And today my prayer is that America will bless God; praise Him; and thank Him for this great country we live in. Remember to pray for our military. Freedom isn't free. Thank you to all our military and their families who so bravely serve and risk everything.

Life at our house: We have had another visitor to our house. A Baltimore oriole has been visiting our hummingbird feeder. He is very camera shy. So I haven't a picture but follow the link and see a picture.
DV (our house guest) has picked up hand quilting. Yeah! She is doing the best she can with one good hand. She is making progress. I admire her patience and persistence. I plan on introducing her to the sewing machine soon. She is afraid she cannot manage the foot pedal. I have faith in her. Ya'll keep praying, okay. DV is learning more and more about God. It is really invigorating to watch a new Christian grow.

Pear Bread Recipe

3 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 cups finely chopped, peeled pears
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup butter or margarine, melted
2 teaspoons vanilla
4 eggs

Into large bowl, sift together first 6 ingredients. Stir in pears; set aside. In small bowl, using mixer at high speed, beat sugar, oil, butter and vanilla until well blended. Add eggs, one at a time; beat until thick and lemon-colored.
Add sugar-egg mixture to dry ingredients; stir just until moistened. Spoon batter into 2 greased 8 1/2 x 4 1/2 x 2 1/2" loaf pans. Bake in 350 degree oven 55 to 60 minutes, or until loaves are golden brown and toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pans 10 minutes. Remove; cool on racks.

Changes I have made for my personal preference--
I prefer to use 1 teaspoon cinnamon or more instead of ginger and nutmeg and I use 3/4 cup olive oil instead of vegetable oil and butter. I reduce the sugar to 1 1/2 cups.

I learned from a dear woman who in younger years cooked for groups of people to dust my pans with sugar. It gives your bread a wonderful finish.

Enjoy!

Disappearing 9 Patch

Here's the baby quilt I've been working on. Tell me--are the colors and all okay? What do you think?

Happy Labor Day and hope you have a wonderful time with your family and friends.

Baby pigs

Here they are! In the upper right photo, do you see the little pigs laying on top of their mother?
Pretty neat, huh?
DV is adjusting pretty well. Thank you for your prayers.
I've been working on the Disappearing 9 Patch baby quilt and will post a picture soon.

Darling Visitor

We have a darling visitor in our household; henceforth, known as DV. We picked DV up Saturday. Everything seems to be going well. DV was in an abusive situation. DV has cerebral palsy and a family member was abusing DV. I need an education, folks. Anyone out there that can tell me about cerebral palsy? Please email me. DV gets around pretty good. We got DV's electric chair all charged up and DV was riding around all over the yard and having a big time. DV recently became a Christian and has lots of questions. I would appreciate your prayers for DV.

It is the first day of school for many area schools. This is my DD's first day as a teacher. She is teaching 8th grade gifted and talented science. She will be perfect for this position. Her ulitmate goal is to teach high school chemistry.

We have two more litters of pigs; the last being born last night. I went to take a picture last Friday and camera batteries were down. Later today I will go down and take pictures.

I haven't done anything quilt related lately besides price new merchandise. I'm not sure I'm liking the fabric choices for the Disappearing 9 Patch baby quilt but will make it work. I won a door prize at Kraz-z Quilters Wednesday. A "green" shopping bag, a can of roasted pecans (hidden from DH)LOL, and a basil plant (which I am going to repot and put on my kitchen window sill). I didn't get to go to Paradise Piecemakers Saturday. But that's okay.

Another give-away

Molly's Place is having a give-away. Seems as though she has been cleaning out her sewing room. Sounds like a good idea. I do but in a few days it looks the same! Anyway, head on on over if you would like to sign-up for her give-away.

Oh, and I'm still working on what I will give away when I reach 100 posts. Seems as though I can't add. I think I am closer to 90 than 100. But it is coming! Gives me more time to work up something nice, huh?

The baby quilt above is one I made for my great niece. I have heard from quilters and quilting bloggers how they were never thanked for their gift of a quilt. I have been so blessed that my nephew has really valued this little quilt.

Forgot to tell you. We have a new litter of pigs. They were born Monday night. First time mother with eight little piglets. I will get a picture. We have two more due this weekend. It's August, time for show pigs to be born!
Hugs, to everyone.

BIL is better

DH's brother is doing well. They did find a blockage and put in two stints today. Thank you for your prayers.
